Dear Aliens: A Writing Contest for Humans

We are running a writing contest called DEAR ALIENS. It costs $0 to enter. The winner gets $2,000. We think this will be very fun to participate in and encourage you to write something.
You should also share the contest — www.dearaliens.net — with anyone you know who might be interested. We want to read their writing, too.

What’s the deal with this contest?
The aliens are coming. Or at least we think they are. The aliens will accept one (1) written document from humanity before arriving. We want to find that document.
The document needs to be under 1,000 words. The aliens don't have all day. Or light year.
Do the aliens want to kill us?
We don’t know. In fact we don’t know anything about them except that they can read English. We don’t know what they would want to read. That’s kind of the whole reason we are doing this.
So what should I write?
Whatever you think the aliens should read. It could be a history of humanity. It could be a history of yourself. It could be a description of a sunset. It could be a really funny joke. It could be satire. Who knows what the aliens like?
We encourage people to be creative. There is one version of this where you could try to be super logical (e.g. if we don’t know what the aliens want, it’s safest to assume they are violent, in which case we should make a really logical plea to not kill us), but that may be kind of boring. We think you should take the spirit of the contest to heart, more than the literal word.
What do you think the aliens should read about us? Write that.
How can I participate?
Just write (either handwritten, or typed and printed) your submission and then mail it to us. The next step, if you would like to join, is to enter your email on the DEAR ALIENS website.
Where do I sign up and learn more?
On www.dearaliens.net — we would love to see some Quarter Mile readers join :)
